Like it or not, error messages are a fact of life in the world of technology.
Recently, we realized that no matter what we did our MondoPlayer App would occasionally encounter a problem with the Android operating system and the App would stop running.
It’s a problem many Android Apps encounter. The App gets into a state that requires the user to exit and re-start the App. Anyone who owns an Android phone has encountered this scenario.
No amount of de-bugging could save us from this scenario. So we needed to get busy and craft an error message.
Here is ours,
Sorry…Something went wrong!
Being Canadian, we just had to include the word, “Sorry”.
My Favorite Error Messages:
I thought it would be interesting to find out what other developers used for error messages so I did some googling. Here are my favs:
OHHHH…. I give up
“Keyboard not present, press any key”
PROGRAMMER GOOFED . . . YOU SHOULD NEVER SEE THIS MESSAGE”
YOU CAN’T DO THAT!
Man the Lifeboats! Women and children first!
Sorry, I don’t know how to help in this situation.
Maybe you should try asking a human?
One of your faux pas seems to have wounded me deeply…
in fact, I’m barely conscious. Please fix it and try again.
Things are not looking good!
Shut ‘er down, Clancy, she’s a-pumpin’ mud!
Invalid command. Feel ashamed for yourself and try again
HOW IN THE HELL DID YOU GET HERE
panic (“Shannon and Bill say this can’t happen”);
The impossible has happened!
Beam me up Scotty, there’s no life out here.
Well, you ran into something and the game is over.
Do you have a favorite error message?
