MondoPlayer received its first independent Product Review Video. It’s embedded above for you to watch.
A big thank you to Wheels and Chips for interviewing Cristian and I.
Wheels and Chips did a great Product Review. But there were some issues with it that resulted from our lack of preparation. It made us realize we need to be better prepared for future Product Reviews.
Tips for Preparing for Independent Product Reviews:
1. Have a Press Kit
The Product Review says we do not have a Windows version of MondoPlayer. This is incorrect.
We have a comprehensive Windows Desktop version of MondoPlayer but not a Windows phone version.
To avoid this kind of confusion we should have a Press Kit on our site that clearly states our product offerings. We just recently launched a brand new site so this is on our To Do list.
We will do a future post about how to prepare a Press Kit.
2. Have a Speedrun of your App
The video reviewer unfortunately encountered a deficiency in our App. It causes the menu to stay on the screen until it is closed using the X button.
The menu is supposed to disappear after a few seconds. The reviewer was unaware of this so the menu stayed on the screen throughout their screencast.
You should do a speedrun of your App and have it available on your site and in your Press Kit.
A Speedrun is a screencast of your App. It should highlight the major features of your App in a quick run though.
The objective of your Spreedrun is to give a reviewer or journalist a quick overview of your App. It should show how your App is designed to be used.
3. Provide Download Links
If your App is available on several Download sites, provide links for your preferred Download sites. For example, Google Play for Android Apps and the App Store for iPhone.
If you charge for your product and you want to give followers of the Reviewer a special offer you could create a special download link or a discount code.
We were very pleased to get our first Video and blog Product Review so we give ourselves high marks for that. (By the way, we connected with the reviewers on Twitter so keep Twitter in mind as a good way to attract attention to your Product.)
We give ourselves low marks for preparation and it showed in the Product Review. We are going to learn from this experience and do much better the next time.
Do you have any advice for improving the Product Review experience?
