Yay or nay?
I’ve always been an advocate for personalized notes when sending connection requests.
But lately, my stance has shifted.
Here’s why.
If you’re active on LinkedIn, and engaging, and your profile speaks volumes, a blank request might work.
But if your profile reads “Sales Rep” and hasn’t been touched in months, it’s not doing you any favors.

Follow this process before sending your next connection request:
1️⃣ 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁.
Comment on their posts. Like their posts. Show up on their radar.
2️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆.
Go beyond “Great post!” Add insights or ask a question that sparks conversation.
3️⃣ 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁.
By now, your name is familiar, making your request feel natural.
You don’t even have to say anything in your connection request.
Blank requests can work if you’ve already established rapport.
But even then, a follow-up message that shows you’ve done …
