In January, Kohl’s announced it planned to close several underperforming stores by April.
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Kohl’s in Williamsburg closed its doors on March 24, according to the Wisconsin-based department store chain.
As of Friday, March 28, the site for the 100 Gristmill Plaza location redirects customers to a directory of other open Virginia stores, with Williamsburg absent from the list.
In January, the company announced plans to close 27 underperforming stores across 15 states and its plans to not renew its lease on the San Bernardino E-commerce Fulfillment Center in May.
These closures came after Kohl’s 11 consecutive quarters of sales declines, struggles to boost its profitability and a change in leadership.
Kohl’s still has not disclosed the number of employees that will be affected by the closures, but claims its workers were informed and offered competitive severance packages or the chance to relocate to different Kohl’s locations.
