MIDLAND, Mich. (WJRT) – President Biden recently signed a measure banning TikTok in the U.S. unless its parent company Byte-dance sells its U-S stake.
Now, TikTok is forced to find a new owner within months or be banned from the United States entirely.
Users would not be able to download the app or interact with its content under the law and some users see the move as unconstitutional.
Nic von Schneider of Glyph Marketing in Midland says TikTok has come under fire because of its algorithm’s association with China.
He says four years ago, China passed a law that basically stipulated that any Chinese app and its association with all of its IP belongs to China.
So right now, the Chinese government has unfettered access to request any amount of data from any user that uses TikTok.
