OpenAI and Google just redefined business discovery and engagement

The two AI announcements from OpenAI and Google have fundamentally changed digital interactions. Businesses need to understand, adapt and get that first mover advantage. These new AI tools and features are bringing a new landscape and for this video three business considerations

1. How your business (and content) will be found

2. What is the purpose of the website

3. Does the current web infrastructure need to change to be conducive to AI?

Let’s break that down.

1. THE RISE OF AI AGENTS

Both Google and OpenAI (also assuming Meta, Anthropic, Mistral, and others) are building AI agents/Personal AI Assistants.

We saw it with Project Astra and GPT-4o.

These Agents “see” and ‘hear’ their surroundings. Both in consumer hands in the next several months.

1. AI SEARCH

Google just announced AI Overview and an AI Agent to help do your complex searches

OpenAI is suspected to have an AI search engine (I’m predicting announced at WWDC and the default search engine on all Apple devices).

1. CONNECTION TO YOUR DATA

OpenAI will have connectors to Google Drive, Office 365, and perhaps other SaaS knowledge bases like Notion, Confluence, Zendesk. Google already has this.

1. TAKING ACTION ON YOUR BEHALF

Google showed Agents carrying out tasks on your behalf whether in Workspaces or through Project Astra. OpenAI is working on the same thing along with Meta, Anthropic and others.

All of the above is pointing to an AI agent, that can search the web, connected to your data, that can “hear” and “see” it’s surroundings, has memory and carry out tasks for you…probably 10-100x faster.

An example would be **[Respell](https://www.linkedin.com/feed/#)**’s Research Agent. It can do complex online research in seconds where it would have taken a human 1-3 hours. I’ve built automations that have saved businesses hundreds if hours. And this is just online research!

WEBSITE PURPOSE:

We build websites so users find what they are looking for and take action.

But now AI agents that can do all the above.

That changes how we build sites as they need to accomodate both agents and the humans.

Instead of merely helping retreive information, they will need to interact intelligently with AI agents.

This transformation will redefine how we think about digital presence and user engagement.

Will websites need their own agents?

WHERE THE WEB WILL GO?

If AI can navigate the web on our behalf, how does that change the structure of the web itself?

As AI performs more of the heavy lifting, what does that mean for the future of digital marketing and online business visibility?

Here’s a couple of considerations:

– Business must rethink how they present themselves online.
– How will these agents integrate with existing IT infrastructure including compatibility, security, and user privacy are just the tip of the iceberg.
– How to train your teams on building, training and monitoring agents.

So how do you think the OpenAI, Google and really further announcements mean for the future of the web, online engagement and interaction?
